JETHRO TULL by Ian Anderson – Interlochen Arts Festival – August 17, 2017

With more than 40 years of hits like “Thick as a Brick,” “Aqua Lung,” and “Locomotive Breath,” one of the most iconic groups in rock history, the legendary Jethro Tull, comes to Kresge Auditorium for a night of stellar songs. Led by rock legend Ian Anderson, arguably the world’s best-known rock and roll flutist, Jethro Tull packs a performance tailor-made for true rock aficionados.

Ian Anderson
Ian Anderson, known throughout the world of rock music as the flute and voice behind the legendary Jethro Tull, celebrates his 49th year as a recording and performing musician in 2017.

Still enjoying a lengthy if intermittent ongoing career, Jethro Tull has released 30 studio and live albums, selling more than 60 million copies since the band first performed at London’s famous Marquee club. After undertaking more than 3000 concerts in forty-something countries throughout four decades, Tull has played typically 100 concerts each year to longstanding, as well as new fans worldwide.

Widely recognized as the man who introduced the flute to rock music, Ian Anderson remains the crowned exponent of the popular and rock genres of flute playing. So far, no pretender to the throne has stepped forward.

Marvel at the musicianship and music of two break-out Interlochen Alumni.

Named among Yahoo Music's "Top 10 Bands to Watch in 2017," The Accidentals’ return to their hometown of Traverse City, MI—and their alma mater of Interlochen—to play this not-to-be-missed performance at Corson Auditorium.
Multi-instrumentalists Sav Buist (IAA 12-13) and Katie Larson (IAC 05, 08-12/IAA 12-14), joined by drummer Michael Dause, have crafted a genre all their own.

Larson, a sophomore cellist, and Buist, a junior violinist left their public high school to participate in the first year of the Singer Songwriter program at IAA. During that time they recorded their second album, Bittersweet. Over 1500 live shows and a self produced EP later, they signed a recording contract with Sony Masterworks in 2017. They return to Interlochen with their debut major label album, Odyssey, on Jan 27th, 2018.

THE ALBUM:
“They display equal interest in the focused musical forms of indie rock and pop and the expansive potential of orchestral arrangements, jam band open-endedness and impressionistic singer-songwriter expression.”
NPR First Listen: The Accidentals, ‘Odyssey.

THE LIVE SHOW:
The Knockturnal: Concert Review - The Accidentals At Mercury Lounge. “The first thing I noticed, other than the door-to-stage packed room, was the charisma of the band. It’s one thing to get a crowd energized and pumped, but to connect with them on an extremely real level is something that not many acts can pull off gracefully...with laugh inducing anecdotes before each song, Larson and Buist created a strong atmosphere and connection with the crowd.”

Diandra Reviews it All: Concert Review - The Accidentals Are The Comic-Con of Musicians at Mercury Lounge. “The Accidentals are the type of talents that remind humanity it can be so much more than how it acts or behaves. They go beyond lyrics that zone in on love’s ups and downs to present life as the core source of your balanced instability. They are more than just musicians; they are family.”

In the face of growing national apathy, one teenage woman defies the odds and speaks her truth in this devised piece of theatre based on the music of Ani DiFranco. A Fire Just Waiting tells the story of Phoenix, a New Orleans teen, who discovers and decides to own her destiny when she learns she must lead America into revolution. This modern Joan of Arc travels the country to meet with the voiceless, as she looks for a worthy politician to champion and battle with the twisted lens of mainstream media.... See MoreSee Less
