Crystal Mountain – Iron Fish Distillery Fat Chance Fat Tire Bike Race – January 20, 2019

Iron Fish Distillery Fat Chance Fat Tire Bike Race
Fat Chance is the staple of fat biking in Northern Michigan, and is back again for another legendary race at Crystal Mountain with new and familiar faces.

The race will be held on the Otter Trail loop. The new Otter Trail course is 2 miles of speed, twisting sections and minimal elevation. Each lap in will add it’s own new fat tire challenges. All races start at 10am. Helmets are required for rider safety.

Registration

Cost: $50 per rider. Includes timing by Endurance Evolution, race bib, a brew ticket and post race chili bar.
Day of Registration: $60 per rider, if available.

Packet pick-up will be held Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 8 – 9:30am inside Kinlochen.

Medals & Awards

Medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each category. Plus plenty of swag from Crystal Mountain, Iron fish, Einstein Cycles, Bearclaw Bicycle Co., Up Bike TC, KOLO TC and Kona Bikes. Awards ceremony will be held in the Crystal Center starting at 12pm including post-race food and celebrations.

We were boarding on Buck when the racers came through...very cool to see, props to all the racers. The wind was brutal today.

Hell I had a hard time staying ahead of him and I was on a snow mobile! :-))) Good job today Jorden Wakeley!

6pm – Mask Making with the Snow Monsters

Make your own Mardi Gras mask with the Snow Monsters! Held in the Crystal Center.

March 3

Beads, Beads & More Beads

Keep your eye out, beads are everywhere! Collect all you can with games throughout the day, costume contest and scavenger hunt on the mountain. Houseguests receive their first set of beads upon check-in. Additional beads available for purchase at the Mardi Gras Tent, while supplies last.

N’awlins Namaste

Laissez les bon temps rouler! (a.k.a. “let the good times roll!”) Complete one yoga class and get a strand of beads to celebrate Mardi Gras!

8am – Sunrise Yoga

As the sun rises over the mountain awaken your body with this building to exhilarating practice of yoga. Located at the Peak Fitness Center.

9am – Body Fit

Located at the Peak Fitness Center

9am

• On-hill bead search
• Find and ski with the Mardi Gras Jester

10am – Family Yoga*

*Ages 7 and up are welcome with an adult. Space is limited – please register in advance by calling 888.968.7686 ext. 7300.

11:30am – Aromatherapy Yoga

Held at the Peak Fitness Center

Noon – 5pm: DJ Dance Party, BBQ & Seafood Boil

Dancing, bead contest, face painting, Glitter Tattoos and more! Purchase your Mardi Gras necessities at the slopeside Mardi Gras Shop.

• Louisiana Seafood Boil – Made with andouille sausage, crawfish, shrimp, corn and potatoes for $9.95.

• BBQ Chicken Quarters – Served with corn and potatoes for $7.50.

2pm – Stylin’ on the Slopes Costume Contest

Strut your creative Mardi Gras purple, gold and green costumes on the slopes! Participants receive beads for creativity and enthusiasm. Meet at the Lodge slopeside tent at 2pm for judging. Top adult male and female will be crowned King/Queen of the Mountain and win a 2018-19 Premier Season Pass!

2-5pm – Drink Specials in the Vista Lounge

Enjoy drink specials from Stormcloud Brewing Company in the Vista Lounge!

3pm – Mardi Gras Open Jam

Open to both Skiers and Snowboarders. Prizes awarded to top 3 in each division. All participants are entered into a drawing to win a 2018-19 Season Pass! Now just $10, includes March on the Mountain Tee and giveaways! Registration available online or day of at the registration tent from Noon -3pm.

8pm – Midnight: Live Music at the Vista Lounge

Featuring Fremont John and the Contrarians! Playing a fun mix of originals and Classic covers. Enjoy drink specials from Stormcloud Brewing Company!

Crystal Mountain – Spring Carnival – March 9, 2019


Celebrate spring the “up-north” way, with all kinds of snow-filled fun! Fun-in-the-sun costumes are highly encouraged. Get ready for great events and activities for the whole family to enjoy during Spring Carnival.

Friday

6pm: Cardboard Sled Building Workshop

Located in the Crystal Center. Cardboard and tape will be provided. $10 per duct tape roll. Reservations available at Park at Water’s Edge – stop by or call 888.968.7686 ext. 7000.

7-8pm: Cardboard Classic Registration

Completed sled and all participants must be present to register. The sledding surface of your sled must be standard brown cardboard or standard silver duct tape. Registration to be held slopeside on the lodge deck.

Saturday

8am: Bootcamp

Located at the Peak Fitness Center.

9am: Fitness Challenge Fun

Located at the Peak Fitness Center.

9:30-10:30am: Cardboard Classic Registration

Completed sleds and participants must be present to register. The sledding surface of your sled must be standard brown cardboard or standard silver duct tape. Registration will be held slopeside on the Lodge deck.

10am: Yoga

Located at the Peak Fitness Center.

10:30am: Cardboard Classic Creative Sled Contest

Build a cardboard sled using only standard cardboard and duct tape. All sleds participating in the competition must be pre-registered.

11am: Cardboard Classic Race

Once registered, the cardboard sleds and riders will make their way up the mountain for a race like no other. All sleds and participants must be present at registration.

11am: Family Yoga*

Ages 7 and up are welcome with an adult. Held at the Peak Fitness Center.

Noon – 1:30pm: Slush Cup Registration

Held slopeside on the Lodge deck.

Noon-2pm: New Belgium Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger Hunt Registration will take place from 11am-Noon. The winner will receive a 2018-19 Season Pass! Must be 21+ to win.

Noon – 5pm: DJ Dance Party & BBQ

Including hula hoop contest, limbo and more!

2pm: Slush Cup

Ski or ride through a giant pit of icy slush for bragging rights! Day-of registration required at the slopeside tent at least 30 minutes prior to the event starting. Helmets are required. Rental gear is prohibited. Participants must be 12 years of age.

6 – 9pm: FREE Slopeside Concert featuring Drew Hale

Throughout Michigan, the name Drew Hale is synonymous with powerful vocals, compelling lyrics and haunting melodies. In 2016, Drew won the national Country Showdown competition held in Nashville, earning him the title Best New Act in Country Music, as well as the $100,000 cash prize. You can count on an eclectic show that delivers a dynamic combination of originals and covers that bridge the gap between country, roots rock, and blues. Concert will be held slopeside, near the base of Buck under the big tent at Kinlochen

Thanks to all of our participants in the Cardboard Classic! It’s certainly lived up to its name today. Meanwhile the four different seasons Mother Nature threw at us this week unfortunately created some technical problems with the Slush Cup but will be ready for Celts & Kayaks weekend on March 18!

Cheers to a fun-filled St. Patrick’s weekend, with plenty of activities for everyone, including our epic Kayak on the Snow Race.

Friday

6pm: Drink Specials at the Vista Lounge

Start celebrating the fun weekend ahead in the Vista Lounge!

6-9pm: Shamrock Glitter Tattoos

Come grab a FREE Shamrock Glitter Tattoo at the Inn at the Mountain.

Saturday

8am – Zumba Party in the Water

Ages 7 and up are welcome with an adult. Held in the Peak Fitness Center pool.

9am – Zumba, Irish Style

Held at the Peak Fitness Center

9am – 4pm

Shamrock Search – Find a numbered shamrock and return it to the Park at Water’s Edge for a prize!

Pot of Gold Challenge – Enter your best guess to win a Pot of Gold. Visit the Park at Water’s Edge for details.

Look for the Leprechaun – The leaping Leprechaun comes just once a year. Find him for good luck and an on hill photo!

9:30am – 1:30pm: Event Registration

Slope side registration available for the Kayak on the Snow Race and the Slush Cup. Participants must be present to register. See rules for event age requirements. Parent signature required for children 17 and under.

10am: Yoga

Held at the Peak Fitness Center.

11am: Kayak on the Snow Race

Compete for the best time kayaking on the snow! Equipment provided. The use of personal equipment is prohibited. Participants must be at least 8 years old. Registration required 30 minutes prior to the event starting.

12pm – 5pm: DJ Dance Party & BBQ

We’ll be playing games and dancing all afternoon long! Held slopeside on the Lodge deck.

12pm-Close: Green Beer in the Vista Lounge

1pm: Celtic Dance

Enjoy a unique slopeside show of Dair2Treble Irish & Interpretive Dance Troupe. Directed by Rose Vanderley. Showcasing traditional Irish dancing steps!

2pm: Slush Cup

Ski or ride through a giant pit of icy slush for bragging rights. Day of registration required at slopeside tent, at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the Slush Cup. Helmets are required. Rental gear is prohibited. Participants must be at least 12 years of age.

6 – 9pm: FREE slopeside concert featuring Brena

Brena, a six member band, features guitars, drums, horns, violin, keyboards, and tight vocal harmonies to keep you dancing all night long. Their wide variety of songs offer a little something for everyone; ranging from oldies, to current top 40 hits, classic rock to smooth R&B, country to high energy dance music, and everything in between. Concert will be held slopeside near the base of Buck, in the big tent by Kinlochen.
